Abstract

The health status and longevity of Japanese people has dramatically improved during the last half century. The aging of
Japanese society has resulted in the increase in social security cost, and the government has reformed the health care
policies to sustain the helthcare system. The current phase of Japan¡¯s health care system provides the relevances on
how many issues in Korean oral health care could be solved. For this purpose, we have visited Japan January 2016. The Japanes Dental Association and Dr. Miori who is the member of Japanese Assembly have provided plenty of data and informations. Also we have interviewed with Japanese dentists who have practiced oral health serveces for many years.
The current phase of Japanese health care reform places emphasis on the prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases(NCDs) and shorening the length of hospital stays. In later phases, it intends to enhance the medical/dental care system by adding the home care provision and the establishing the integrated community care system. The longe-term care insurance and visiting dental treatment of Japan provide appropriate oral health care for the dependant elderly in facilites or at home in Japan. Policies should be made to close the remaing gap between dental care needs and supply, in Korea.
